New Coral Nursery Opens Off Catalina Coast

The Reef Renewal Lab has launched a new coral nursery near Catalina Island, designed to cultivate climate-resilient coral species. Marine biologists and volunteers installed modular reef structures and began seeding them with coral fragments. The nursery will serve as a research hub and restoration source for degraded reef areas along the California coast. Early signs show promising growth and biodiversity around the site. The nursery includes underwater monitoring stations and temperature sensors to track environmental conditions. Local dive clubs have expressed interest in supporting the project through volunteer dives and fundraising. This initiative represents a major step forward in scalable reef restoration and community-driven marine science.
