Right before the beginning of each month, since roughly 2022, I task myself with creating high-quality wallpaper artwork pertaining to a small, niche online series for a personal monthly project of mine called “Clone Channel”, based off of the SEGA-run Sonic Channel. Each piece is posted publicly on the day before the beginning of the next month, so keeping in mind the fact that November’s post would fall on October 31st, which also happened to be DELTARUNE’s 7th Anniversary, I decided to use a setting and characters adjacent to it. In hopes of making it appear much more special, I also decided to go with a “lineless” style for it based off of Yui Karasuno’s numerous works for the Sonic PICT series.
Since July 2025, I have begun each piece by creating a bunch of small-res, simple and quick story boards.

Sketching out this way allows me to get multiple ideas down at once while not spending too much time worrying about minor details that will come much later. I usually involve friends in the creative process by asking them which concept they like the most– in this case, the majority chose No.2.
After gathering all this info, I take the selected storyboard and blow it up to the size of the canvas, redrawing a bigger, more detailed, but still messy sketch.

While the process is redundant and can seem drawn out, it also lets me change things I have since changed my mind on, or may not like anymore. For example, the trees got changed to allow for a more “open” feeling- though this too was eventually changed.
After that came actually creating the artwork. In any other circumstance, I would start creating clean lines, but because of the chosen style, I instead block out shapes with each individual color.

Inbetween blocking out the characters and beginning the background, I had changed the idea for the background a second time– although, this time it stuck.

I ended up going with more solid colors with the trees since it would fit the style much better in the long run. It also helped a bit with the contrast- at least, with the maroon one in the front. The grass floor and overall look is heavily inspired by the Field of Hopes & Dreams from the 1st chapter of Deltarune, down to the building in the far background. The spikier trees are intended to make the area feel a little bit dangerous, coupled with the foreboding shadow cast onto the front of the building.
After the full desktop version gets finished, I move onto the last step, which is creating a mobile variant for the wallpaper, which involves zooming in on whoever the subject character of the post is. This time, though, I felt that focusing on the fountain in the back was the best choice.

Above are the final desktop and mobile wallpapers that ended up being uploaded, with a few alternate versions being stuck inside of the Google Drive with all of the high resolution versions of each month’s artwork.
Overall, I had quite a fun time creating this piece. The most challenging part was relearning how to do the lineless, painted-esque art style again. The next time I make a piece like this, I hope to focus on the background a bit more. Finding out a good background can always be a struggle, and I hope to have something much more detailed, dense and interesting the next time around- or at least, not as much of a afterthought. While the post didn’t end up garnering much traction, I’m very proud of it regardless.
